Creative Technical Specifications

Technical requirements that all tvScientific creatives must meet.

These specs in this table constitute the requirements for all tvScientific creatives. Refer to our Creative Best Practices article for recommendations about creative content and style. Manage creatives in the Creatives tab of the platform.

Note that in addition to these technical requirements listed below, some publishers run additional quality checks on their side. In the case of NBCU inventory, for example, you may see bidding activity without winning while this review is underway.

tvScientific Specifications for Uploaded Creative Files

Video: High Definition

High-Definition is recommended for maximum accessibility to premium inventory

  • 1920 x 1080 or

  • 1280 x 720 (16:9) or

  • 1440 x 1080 (4:3)

Video: Standard Definition

  • 720 x 480 4:3 or 16:9 pixel aspect ratio

  • Letterboxing on native 1.78:1 (16 × 9) or pillarboxing on native 1.33:1 (4 × 3) content is not allowed

  • Constant bitrate (CBR) 15–30 Mbps or Variable Bitrate (VBR) 20-60 Mbps

  • Main Profile @ Main Level (MP@ML)

  • 4:2:2 color space

Codec

  • Apple ProRes 422 HQ

  • H.264

Duration

  • 15 seconds exactly (:15:00)

  • 30 seconds exactly (:30:00)

  • 60 seconds exactly (:60:00)

File Extension

  • .mp4 (recommended)

  • .mov

File Size

Maximum 100 MB (100,000 KB)

File Format

  • MPEG-4 (MP4, recommended)

  • QuickTime Movie (MOV)

Frame Rate

  • 23.98, 25, or 29.97 based on native frame rate

  • Constant frame rate only. No duplicate Frames Allowed

  • Please make content progressive scan

Audio Technical Specifications

Audio is required

  • 2 channels only

  • Bitrate: 192 kbps minimum 16-bit or 24-bit only

  • Sample rate: 48 kHz

  • Codec: pulse-code modulation (PCM) or Advanced Audio Coding (AAC)

  • Audio level: -24 LKFS (+/-2dB) with peak volume at -6 DBFS

Other

  • No letterboxing

  • No pillarboxing

QR Policy

  • Recommended to test on CTV

  • Hulu does not allow QR codes, so use non-QR versions for their ad groups.

Sensitive Categories and Other Content Guidelines

  • In handling sensitive categories, individual inventory providers may require additional creative review, restrict advertising access to subsets of inventory or to day-parts, or disallow ads for such sensitive categories as those below (if your campaign falls into one of these categories and you have questions, contact us using the tvSci Messenger bot on the bottom right of our platform screens):

  • Hulu does not allow QR codes

  • Hulu does not allow implied interactivity; this means the creative should not include buttons, overlays, animations, or other elements that imply the creative is interactive.

By meeting tvScientific's creative specs when you upload to our platform, you enable us to dynamically create the best file for the maximum number of settings possible, including for settings that require the highest quality files.

VAST 2.0 Specifications for Mezzanine, High, Medium, and Low Quality Files

You will most likely be using the tvScientific platform's creative upload feature. Following the technical specs outlined above ensures that you are submitting mezzanine quality files, so you do not need the details listed below. The table below outlines specifications for different qualities of files if you are submitting a VAST URL.
